The printing, trimming and binding processes we utilize to create your book makes it really difficult to guarantee precision front/back page registration. This page “shift” that can occur in the production process may cause borders to appear un-even. If your page does not have a decorative border to close the edge, you may be happier with the results.
Stay in the Safe Zone
Another good idea is to not design anything important too close to the edge of the sheet. A good guideline is to keep any text ½” away from the edge of the page. As mentioned above, a possible page shift can occur at the press, requiring extra trimming. We typically trim off less than a 1/16” during the process, but can take as much as ¼” in some cases. If you keep the important elements of your pages design within this suggested safe zone, even in the worst case, the pages of your book will still appear acceptable.
Print Resolution
We will not print anything that is not created at a resolution of 200 dpi. We highly recommend saving at 300 dpi. This is the optimal resolution to use for best results. Anything higher is overkill. Anything less, quality is sacrificed.
Page Size
As for file size, you should always save your files at the size you want them printed. If you are creating a page that will be printed 8”x 8” (300 dpi), the finished file size you will be submitting should be 2400x2400 ppi (pixels per inch). If you have a page that was originally designed at a 12”x12” size, we can scale down and print at a smaller size with success. However, scaling up from a page created to print 8”x8” to 12”x12” will cause a loss in resolution. Remember, we will not print anything that is not at least 200 when viewed at its final size.
